Moorea, the Sister Island!

Moorea is 17 km away from Tahiti. Shaped in a triangle form, the “Sister Island” has two main bays: the Opunohu Bay (“ōpū “: the belly and “nohu”: the stonefish) and the Cook Bay (named after the famous navigator James Cook).

Moorea is surrounded by a coral reef and has 12 passes.

With a surface of 133 km², the island has a population of 16,000 inhabitants gathered in several villages along the coast: Maharepa, Paopao, Ha’apiti and Afareaitu.

Moorea counts 8 mountains whose highest point is the Mount Tohiea with its 1207 meters. But the most famous is the Mount Rotui (899 meters) which majestically separates the two bays. It also gave its name to the local fruit juice factory.

It still has that preserved and peaceful atmosphere in a colorful and flowery environment. Moorea is the number one getaway place for Tahiti’s residents. They like to go there for a weekend retreat to rest and relax in a more quiet and simpler lifestyle.

Tour the island by car, electric bike or do it differently driving a roadster with your hair in the wind, or drive up to the viewpoint of the Belvédère offering a stunning panorama of the two bays and the Mount Rotui, or walk along the blue lagoon beaches.

Stop by the agricultural high-school to walk through large fields of hundreds of fruit trees, pineapple plantations and intoxicating flowers scent hanging in the air. Complete the tour by tasting jams, fresh juices or sorbets made by the high-school students. Make sure you taste the Tiare Tahiti jam, the grapefruit/pineapple juice before you leave the place. You won’t regret it!

The lagoon offers a range of leisure activities such as renting a kayak and exploring the lagoon. Be sure you also discover the richness of the seabed or even meet rays and sharks! Settle down and enjoy a generous lunch with your feet in the sand or in the water!

Want to be entertained, how about the Tiki Village dinner show, a craft centre dedicated to the Polynesian culture and its heritage. On the program: visit of the village, meeting of its inhabitants, introduction to local crafts, buffet dinner and a memorable traditional dance show as well as the amazing “dance of fire”! A unique place where the expression “Polynesian magic” takes on its full meaning!

Choose one or even several of the many activities offered by the local professionals. Just to name a few, you can go hiking, have a Quad bike ride, or enjoy the treetop adventure park. Go for an exploration or introductory dive, go on a jet ski ride or simply choose the golf green, just make your choice!
